This Week's Guest:

Producer/TV Host/Media Critic/Raconteur/Author
JOHN BARBOUR
Most folks fondly remember John as one of the hosts of NBC's popular "Real People"
series of the early 1980s (he was also its creator). But John had nothing short of
an astonishing life and career prior - born and raised in Canada, he came to the
United States three times (and was deported all three times) before he was allowed
to remain. His goal was to become the next Jack Paar (a simple task, right?). However,
along the way, he hit more bumps and snags on the road than a 1957 Edsel. He was a
stand-up comic, a kid show producer, a sitcom writer, a local TV host, and a media
critic on the air and in magazines. Yes, he wore many hats and barely squeaked out a
living...until "Real People" came along and changed his life. It's all chronicled in
his new book, "Your Mother's Not a Virgin" (yes, he'll explain the title, but here's a
hint - JFK - now you're totally confused). For John's first visit, we're going to focus
on his life prior to his big break...and what you're going to see via clips and hear from
John in his own words will literally knock your socks off...and we'll also read your e-mails!

CURRENT SHOW:
#347
Jeanine's guest is author RON DeFORE ("Growing Up in Disneyland"). Ron's dad was
actor Don DeFore ("Ozzie and Harriet"/"Hazel") and his mother, Marion Holmes, was
a big band singer in the late 1930s and 1940s. The first part of the show features
rare radio clips of Marion's vocals with the Art Kassel Orchestra. The rest of
the show includes tracks that Ron fondly remembers from his childhood - true baby
boomer favorites!
